AluK, a global leader in aluminium building systems, has released its first Global Carbon Footprint Report, marking an important step forward in its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy.

The report, covering the 2023-2024 fiscal year, represents the first complete measurement of AluK’s greenhouse gas emissions across its operations and value chain. This milestone provides the company with a clear baseline to track progress and take targeted action to reduce its environmental impact.

The construction sector is responsible for approximately 37% of global CO2 emissions – said Delphine Reboul-Gayot, Head of HR and ESG at AluK Group. – At AluK, we recognise the role we must play in accelerating the industry’s transition to a low-carbon future. This report not only reflects our commitment to transparency, but also provides us with the insights needed to make informed, impactful decisions across our operations.”

Emissions Breakdown (FY 2023–2024):

» Total emissions: 12.3 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) per tonne of aluminium sold

» Scope 1 (Direct emissions): 4% – from fuel combustion and gas leaks in AluK’s own operations

» Scope 2 (Indirect emissions): 1% - from electricity use

» Scope 3 (Other indirect emissions): 95%, including:

» 73% from purchased goods and services (mainly aluminium manufacturing)

» 13% from the use and end-of-life of sold products

» 4% from energy consumption

» 4% from fixed assets

» Remaining emissions from freight transport, business travel, real estate, digital operations, and company vehicles

This breakdown highlights the wide-reaching impact of aluminium's entire lifecycle, from the extraction of raw materials to the use and disposal of products.

The data was compiled in partnership with Aktio, a specialist in corporate carbon footprint analysis, using a rigorous and transparent methodology aligned with international standards.

With this report, AluK will now move forward with setting emissions reduction targets and launching its carbon footprint plan. These efforts will focus on the most significant sources of emissions and will be implemented both globally and at the local business unit level.

This first footprint report gives us clarity and direction – added Delphine Reboul-Gayot. – It’s the foundation of a long-term commitment to reducing our environmental impact and collaborating with partners across the value chain to drive measurable progress.
